Review In Brief

The Nautica Penthouse Suite is a tranquil haven at sea. With loads of room and a double-sized teak veranda, as well as the dedicated attention of your own butler, we think it’s hard to beat.

Nautica Penthouse Suite Review

A Nautica Penthouse Suite is ideal for those who like more space. In fact, it is almost double the size of a standard room. As our review shows, it also comes with an array of added perks to make your cruise vacation even more enjoyable.

Nautica Penthouse Suite guests get a bottle of Champagne on embarkation. They also get afternoon canapés and upgraded bathroom amenities. Plus, a classically trained butler is on call too.

All the Nautica Penthouse Suite were refurbished in October 2017 with new carpet as well as refreshed furnishings.

Our Nautica review explain what was and wasn’t refurbished.

Position and layout

There are 52 Penthouse Suites on Nautica. They are all located on deck 8, which is the highest passenger accommodation deck. Each suite is generously proportioned with 29.9 sq. m. (322 sq. ft.) of internal space as well as an expansive 5.2 sq. m. (56 sq. ft.) teak veranda.

Partitioned from the rest of the suite is a small entry foyer. It contains the closet and safe as well as the mini-bar refrigerator. It also gives access to the bathroom. Beyond is the main living space, the layout of which is similar to a junior suite in a hotel. There is a comfortable dining area and sofa, as well as a large writing desk and queen-sized bed.

Living space

The Nautica Penthouse Suite feels spacious and airy. We especially like the floor-to-ceiling glass doors that run from one side of the suite to the other allowing natural light to fill the room.

The decor combines cool azure and teal tones, accented by dark wood highlights. Cabinetry runs down one side of the suite with storage drawers and a writing desk, which also doubles as a vanity area. There is a comfy 3-seater sofa as well as a small dining table and chairs.

The suite has a luxurious queen-sized Prestige Tranquility Bed with 1,000-thread-count linens. On either side are night stands with storage for your personal items. There is also a handsome bedside clock.

The Nautica Penthouse Suite has small flat-screen TV which is something of a let down. There is also a DVD player.

The private veranda

The veranda is a real treat. It is decked-out in the finest teak and also has reclining outdoor chairs, making it the perfect place to watch the sun set with a glass of Champagne.

At 5.2 sq. m. (56 sq. ft.) the Nautica Penthouse Suite veranda is almost twice as long as those of regular staterooms, so there’s lots of room to make the most of the ever changing view.

Bathroom

The granite-clad bathroom in the Nautica Penthouse Suite is functional, though somewhat dated. It has a combination bath/shower with a shower screen that rather unsuccessfully prevents splashing. There is an oversized basin as well as good storage space on and around the vanity area.

The shortcomings of the bathroom are made up for by its cleanliness, as well as the oversupply of Bulgari amenities – including bath salts.

Storage

The Nautica Penthouse Suite has a single closet with 3-timber panelled doors (the same configuration as regular staterooms). Hence, there is limited hanging space which may be a problem for guests taking longer voyages with lots of clothing.

However, there are plenty of deep drawers, both in the closet and in the living space. There is also shelving in the closet which is handy for storing bulky items.

We noted that large luggage did not easily fit under the bed. When we sailed our room attendant kindly helped lift the bed to squeeze the cases underneath.

CruiseOyster tip: To esnure large cases fit more easily, open them flat before sliding them under the bed.
